Supreme Grand Master Byung Jick Ro, the founder of Songmmokwan, is often referred to as the Father of Modern Taekwondo. It is his work behind the scenes in various positions that lead to Taekwondo being recognized as the Korean National Sport. While many had input during this time, SGM Ro was the chair of the promotion committee and had final say about those being promoted to Yudansha ranks. It was this acceptance by his peers that made him the most notable Taekwondo master.

Supreme Grandmaster Joon P. Choi, President, has committed his life to learning and teaching the principles of Song Moo Kwan Taekwondo as taught by the founder, Byung Jick Ro. SGM Choi was promoted to 10th Dan (10-01) by SMK Founder Byung Jick Ro on July 3, 2013. It was his intent that SGM Choi continue Song Moo Kwan’s legacy. World Song Moo Kwan United was created to foster the re-connection to SMK grandmasters and masters to recognize them and their accomplishments. Additionally, those wishing to connect with an organization are invited to join. There are more similarities in our principles and training than there are differences.

We look forward to connecting with all from our SMK family! Currently, we are building an archive of the main branches of Songmookwan. These are to be from the first generation “pioneer” students and their accomplishments. We will include the information from their students as branches from them. It is our hope to collect the history, stories (true and legend), training concepts, and more! Please check the link in the right column to see if you and your teacher or students are listed in our lineage. If not, contact us!

Please use the information here to submit your application to the WSMKU!
